Appalaches

Montreal’s Appalaches wield a mighty brand of instrumental rock which rejoices in compositional expanse and carefully crafted soundscapes. Their 2014 debut Mon is a Master’s class in delicate melodies and sonic textures, having proven to be one of the genre’s most beautiful records that year.

Their sophomore release Cycles, recorded at Mile End District’s Hotel2tango by Godspeed You! Black Emperor’s Thierry Amar, boldly breaks in some ways from that approach, exploring the possibilities of a rawer sound based more heavily on an inspired three-guitar attack and a wealth of dramatic crescendos.

One of Montreal’s finest emerging post-rock groups, Appalaches is Jared Coliadis (guitar), Mathieu Salvail (guitar), Anthony Thomassin (guitar, keys), Sebastien Legault (bass) and Maxime Legault-Venne (drums).
